Fishing for marlin out of Cabo

Marlin live offshore, so the boat matters. These 14 are the premium sportfishers in our fleet at 35 feet and up, the boats with the range and room for a full day on the water. Full-day prices start at $1,374 for the whole boat, all-in, and the biggest take up to 10 anglers.

Timing depends on the fish. Striped marlin, Cabo's everyday billfish, peak from November to May. Blue marlin, the trophy fish, run from June to December, and black marlin from June to November. Marlin are released, so plan on the photo, not the dinner; the tuna and dorado you catch on the same trip are the ones for the table.

Boats leave from two marinas. 12 depart Cabo San Lucas and 2 depart Marina Puerto Los Cabos in San José del Cabo, which is closer to the Gordo Banks. Questions people ask

When is marlin season in Cabo?
There is marlin in Cabo most of the year. Striped marlin peak from November to May, blue marlin from June to December and black marlin from June to November. Your captain fishes for whatever is running on your date.
Do we keep the marlin?
No. Marlin are caught and released in Cabo. Other fish you catch on the same trip, like tuna or dorado, can usually be kept; ask your captain on the day.
Half day or full day for marlin?
The fish are offshore, so most anglers choose a full day for the extra time on the water. Every boat on this page also sells a half day, except the San José boats, which run one 6-7 hour trip.
What is included in the price?
Every boat price is for the whole boat, all-in: captain and crew, rods, reels and tackle, one Mexican fishing licence, dock and marina fees, ice and bottled water, fresh or live bait when available, and all taxes. The tip for the crew is separate; 15-20% is standard in Cabo.
How does booking work?
Pick a boat, a date and half or full day, then book online. Trips over $500 take a $500 deposit and the balance is settled before the trip; trips under that are paid in full. Your captain confirms the departure time and dock once the date is booked. Cancel 7 or more days out for a full refund, 72 hours to 7 days for 50%; if the captain cancels for weather, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
