Why anglers book the full day

A full day gives the boat time to run offshore, where the marlin, tuna and dorado are. Every boat in our fleet sells one: 34 boats, 23 to 60 feet, with full-day prices from $619 to $4,837 for the whole boat. Prices are all-in, with the captain and crew, tackle, bait, ice, a fishing licence, dock fees and tax included.

23 boats depart Cabo San Lucas. The other 11 depart Marina Puerto Los Cabos in San José del Cabo and sell a single 6-7 hour trip at one price, which is what their cards show. The San José marina sits closer to the Gordo Banks offshore.

Seasons shape the day. Yellowfin tuna run from May to November and dorado from July to October, both good eating. Striped marlin peak from November to May and blue marlin from June to December. For the biggest boats, see luxury fishing yachts; for a shorter trip, half-day charters.

How long is a full day?

The San José boats publish one 6-7 hour trip. For the Cabo San Lucas boats, your captain confirms the departure and return time once your date is booked.

What is included in the price?

Every boat price is for the whole boat, all-in: captain and crew, rods, reels and tackle, one Mexican fishing licence, dock and marina fees, ice and bottled water, fresh or live bait when available, and all taxes. The tip for the crew is separate; 15-20% is standard in Cabo.

How does booking work?

Pick a boat, a date and half or full day, then book online. Trips over $500 take a $500 deposit and the balance is settled before the trip; trips under that are paid in full. Your captain confirms the departure time and dock once the date is booked. Cancel 7 or more days out for a full refund, 72 hours to 7 days for 50%; if the captain cancels for weather, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
