A private fishing trip in Cabo does not have to cost thousands. These 9 boats all start at $800 or less for the whole boat, from $498 for the 23ft Panga. The price is all-in, with the captain and crew, tackle, bait, ice and water, a fishing licence, dock fees and tax, so the number on the card is close to what you pay, before the tip.

Most of them are pangas and small sportfishers, 23 to 28 feet, for 3 or 4 anglers. They fish close to shore, where roosterfish run from April to October and snapper bite all year. Split between three people, the per-person cost gets low fast.

Is a cheap charter worth it?

For inshore fish like roosterfish and snapper, a panga or small sportfisher is the classic Cabo trip. If you want to chase marlin offshore, the bigger boats have the range and room.

What is included in the price?

Every boat price is for the whole boat, all-in: captain and crew, rods, reels and tackle, one Mexican fishing licence, dock and marina fees, ice and bottled water, fresh or live bait when available, and all taxes. The tip for the crew is separate; 15-20% is standard in Cabo.

How does booking work?

Pick a boat, a date and half or full day, then book online. Trips over $500 take a $500 deposit and the balance is settled before the trip; trips under that are paid in full. Your captain confirms the departure time and dock once the date is booked. Cancel 7 or more days out for a full refund, 72 hours to 7 days for 50%; if the captain cancels for weather, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
