Treatments in Cabo San Lucas generally run $100 to $300, and a single treatment takes about one to two hours. The mid-range, roughly $80 to $120 for a massage or facial, is the sweet spot for quality, and mid-range spas tend to be the most consistent. Book directly with the spa for the best value rather than through a third party. If you want the full day, stack two treatments with a long break between them instead of booking back to back.

How to build the day

Start early. A morning treatment means you walk out relaxed with the whole day ahead, and morning slots are easier to get. Follow it with a light lunch, not a heavy one, and give yourself a real break before anything else. Most resort spas let you use the pools, steam and relaxation areas around your appointment, so ask when you book and plan to arrive early. Finish with the sunset. It is the one part of a Cabo day nobody should schedule over.

Downtown Cabo San Lucas on Venustiano Carranza, and a $$ room with a 4.9 rating from about 380 reviews. It is a breakfast and lunch place, open 8:30am to 4pm most days, with earlier closes on the weekend, and the menu leans fresh with vegan options. Great coffee, which you will want.

El Huerto Farm to Table

An organic, farm-to-table room in Cabo San Lucas with a 4.7 from close to 800 reviews, $$$. It runs a split schedule: 8am to 12:30pm, then 5:30 to 9:30pm, closed Monday. The morning window is the move after an early treatment. Rooftop seating and a fireplace for the cooler months.

Flora Farms

The famous one, out at km 30 in Las Ánimas Bajas near San José del Cabo. $$$, a 4.7 from around 3,400 reviews, and it also runs in windows: breakfast 9 to 10:30am, lunch 11am to 1:30pm, dinner 5:30 to 9pm, Sunday 10am to 2pm only, closed Monday. Book ahead, it fills. Worth the drive if your spa is on the Corridor or in San José.

Cien Palmas

If your spa day turns into a Todos Santos day, this cafe on Cuauhtémoc has a 4.9 from a small crowd of about 85 reviews, $$, open 9am to 3pm and closed Monday. Casual, quiet and exactly right after a massage.

When to book

Spas run year round. From December through April, our peak season, book a few days ahead, and further out for weekends and holidays. Summer has far more availability and it is also when you will most want to be indoors in the middle of the day. Lunch menus are typically 30 to 40 percent cheaper than dinner, which is one more reason to make the spa a daytime thing.

Practical notes

• Arrive early. Use the steam, pool or relaxation room before your treatment, not after.
• Skip the big lunch. Light and fresh keeps the relaxed feeling going.
• Hydrate. Desert air plus a massage means you need more water than usual.
• Tip. 15 to 20 percent is standard, in pesos or dollars.
• Ask about origin. At lunch, ask where the produce and fish come from. Local farms and fishermen are the point.
