Unique Stays in Cabo: Treehouses, Domes, Tipis and Design Hotels
Treehouses, glass-roof domes, beach tipis, a hot-spring yurt and design hotels in and near Cabo, with drive times from SJD and how to book each one.

Would you sleep in a mango tree? Under a glass dome? In a tipi with the waves right outside? We pulled together twelve of the most fun places to stay in and around Cabo, from a palm-canopy treehouse in San José to an igloo in La Paz. Every one is a real place with its own booking page, and for a lot of people the stay ends up being the whole story of the trip.
Drive times below are from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and are rough, so check the map for your own route. Each stay links to its own official page, because that is where you book.
Treehouses: Acre, Rancho Danza del Sol and Baja Nomads
Acre Treehouses, San José del Cabo. Acre has 13 treehouses up in the palms of Ánimas Bajas: 12 singles and one double that links two rooms with a sky bridge, so bring your best friend. Each comes with a private terrace and an outdoor shower. It is about 20 minutes from SJD. Book on the Acre treehouses page, or see our Acre page and our concierge can help you plan around it.
Tree House at Rancho Danza del Sol, Todos Santos. This treehouse sits in a giant mango tree and took two years to build. It has its own kitchen and bathroom, so you never have to climb down. Plan on about an hour and a half from SJD. It books through its Airbnb listing.
Baja Nomads Hotel, Todos Santos. Walk up a wooden staircase to your own treehouse suite with a king bed and a private bathroom. Or pick one of 12 tepees built from adobe and wood. It is also about an hour and a half from SJD. Book on the Baja Nomads rooms page. Spending a few days on that side? Our Todos Santos guide fills in the rest.

Domes: Los Domecitos, Dome Home Retreat and an igloo
Los Domecitos, Los Barriles. Four geodesic domes, and each one has a glass ceiling right over a queen bed. You fall asleep under the stars and wake up to the Sea of Cortez. The site puts it about an hour from the airport. Book on the Los Domecitos site.
Dome Home Retreat, near Santiago. You rent the whole place, an off-grid retreat in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna. Your days go between freshwater pools, a fruit forest and natural hot springs. It is 15 minutes from Santiago and 45 minutes from SJD, per the retreat. Book on domehomeretreat.com.
Igloo in the Desert, La Paz. It is an igloo in the Baja heat, so yes, it has air conditioning. It sleeps two with a queen bed, close to the La Paz waterfront. Give yourself about two hours from SJD. Book on its Airbnb listing.
Tipis, tepees and a hot-spring yurt
Rústico Lounge tipis, Costa Azul. Four tipis sit on wooden decks right on the beach at Costa Azul in San José, and the waves are your sound machine. Nights run 1,500 to 1,550 pesos on their site, so confirm the rate when you book. It is about 20 minutes from SJD. Book on the Rústico Lounge tipis page.
Casita Sierra Yurts, Buena Vista. You sleep in a round yurt under a palm-frond palapa roof, two blocks from the beach. Your private outdoor tub fills from a natural hot spring. It sleeps two and sits about an hour and ten minutes from SJD. Book on its Airbnb listing. Want more of this coast? Read our East Cape guide.

Design hotels: Drift and NEST Baja
Drift, San José del Cabo. Drift has 29 rooms and suites on the edge of the Gallery District, built from wood, stone and steel and softened with woven textiles. Your night ends with a mezcal cocktail by the courtyard pool, and you can walk to the galleries. You can book Drift right on our Drift page or on drifthotels.co. Our San José del Cabo guide covers the neighborhood.
NEST Baja, East Cape. Each suite comes with a rooftop terrace, a private plunge pool or soaking tub and an indoor fireplace. The whole lodge hosts just 24 guests, ages 16 and up, so it stays calm. Book on nestbaja.com and ask about drive time when you reserve.
Container homes and a Gaudí-style house
20-30 Knots, La Ventana. These eco vacation homes include converted shipping containers and run on solar power. There are three, for 6, 8 and 14 guests, and the kite beaches are within walking distance. It is about two hours from SJD. Book on 20-30knots.com.
Gaudí-style house, La Paz. This three-level house takes its cue from Gaudí, so the spaces, windows and stairs all curve. From the bed you look out over the bay and the city, and it sleeps up to 10. Plan on about two hours from SJD. Book on its Airbnb listing.

How to fit one into your Cabo trip
The closest ones, Acre, Drift and the Rústico tipis, are easy to add to a regular Cabo week. The Todos Santos, East Cape and La Paz stays work best as two or three nights of their own, so you are not on the road twice in one day. A lot of people split the trip: a few nights at a classic resort, then one wild night somewhere new. If you want ideas for that first half, start with our best resorts in Cabo guide.
Most of these places are small, so book direct and read each stay's own rules on age, guests and check-in before you go.
