Cabo Yacht Charters

A private day on the Sea of Cortez is the highest-leverage spend of any Cabo trip. Captain, crew, open bar, snorkel gear, the Arch, Lover's Beach, the sea lions, the sunset — one charter, the entire Cabo experience. Here's how to pick the right yacht for your group.

What you actually charter

A private day on the Sea of Cortez — captain, crew, food, drinks, all included

When you book a yacht charter in Cabo, you book the entire boat for your group for 3, 4, 5, or 8 hours. Standard charter terms across our 14-yacht fleet include the captain, a stewardess or full crew (depending on yacht size), an open bar (beer, wine, spirits, water), light snacks or a full chef-prepared lunch (depending on duration), snorkel gear with a guide, a floating mat, and a paddleboard.

The Cabo charter route is largely the same regardless of which yacht you book: depart IGY Marina in Cabo San Lucas, cruise past El Arco (Land's End), photo stops at Lover's Beach and the sea lion colony, anchor at Santa María Bay or Chileno for swim + snorkel + lunch, then a sunset run back along the coastline. The 3-hour charter is the most common — 4-hour charters add a longer Santa María stop, and 8-hour charters add an East Cape run or a fishing component.

What's not included by default: gratuity (15–20% is standard in Cabo and goes to the captain + crew), marina exit fees on certain larger yachts (a flat ~$200), and any specialty fishing gear if you're combining the charter with a sportfishing element. Everything else is in the headline rate.

Pricing structure across our fleet runs from ~$800/charter for entry-tier 40-50ft boats to $3,500+/charter for 80-95ft premium yachts. Larger boats charge more per hour but cost less per person at full guest capacity — the math is similar to villas.

The fleet

Sport-fishers, catamarans, motor yachts — how to pick

Sport-fishers (32–42ft). Single hull, fishing-optimized layouts, lighter on amenities. The right pick for serious fishing-first charters where you actually plan to put lines in the water (marlin, dorado, tuna). Bisbee's Black & Blue tournament fleet runs heavily on this category. Less ideal for "party day" charters — limited shade, less room to move around, more about the cockpit than the flybridge.

Catamarans (50–75ft). Twin-hull, stable in the water, massive shaded entertainment areas, often with a hot tub on the back. The right pick for big groups (15–30+ guests) wanting a party atmosphere — bachelorettes, corporate offsites, family reunions. Our Lagoon 65 is the busiest catamaran in the fleet because it sits in the sweet spot of capacity + cost.

Motor yachts (60–95ft). Single-hull but bigger, more aesthetic, more luxury. Premium finishes, dedicated cabins for changing/freshening up, full flybridge with elevated views. Our Sunseeker 80 and Azimut 95 are the trophy charters — used for premium client experiences, photo shoots, anniversaries, milestone birthdays where the boat itself is part of the experience.

Mid-size sport yachts (45–65ft). The hybrid. Faster than catamarans, more amenable than sport-fishers, smaller groups (8–14 guests) and shorter charters. Best price-per-experience for 6–10 person groups who want premium feel without the trophy price.

By group size

The per-person math (same as villas — it scales)

Headline charter rates make boats look expensive. The per-person math at full capacity makes them cheap.

Couples (2 guests) — wrong product. Charter a 50ft yacht for $1,500 for 3 hours = $750/person. Bad value. Couples should book a shared sunset cruise (Cabo Adventures, $89-119/person/day) instead.

Small groups (6–8 guests) — break-even. A 50ft mid-tier yacht at $1,800 for 4 hours = $225/person. Now you're competitive with shared cruises and you have the boat to yourselves.

Bachelorettes / friend groups (10–14 guests) — winning. A 65ft cat at $2,500 for 4 hours = $179/person. Better per-person rate than a shared cruise, plus you control the music, the stops, the bar pacing, and the photos.

Corporate / family (16–22 guests) — clear winner. A 75ft motor yacht at $3,000 for 4 hours = $136/person. The biggest groups get the biggest discount per head.

The right way to think about charter pricing: it's a flat cost regardless of headcount, so pack the boat. Our captains can advise on the legal/safe maximum per vessel (USCG and Mexican Navy rules apply).

The route

What you actually see in the 3 hours

Minute 0–15. Depart IGY Marina, exit through the marina mouth, first photo opp of the day with El Arco in the distance. Bar opens.

Hour 1. Cruise past El Arco at Land's End — the most photographed rock in Mexico. Stops for photos at Lover's Beach (the small beach accessible only by water that sits between two rock formations) and the sea lion colony (you'll see and hear them on the rocks).

Hour 2. Cross to Santa María Bay or Chileno Bay (depending on captain's call based on current and crowd), drop anchor. Snorkel gear breaks out. Floating mat in the water. Lunch served on board (chef-prepared on premium yachts, prepared snacks on entry yachts). The water at Santa María is some of the clearest in the Cabo region.

Hour 3 (or extension). Cruise back along the coastline. Sunset run on the 4 PM slot is the best light of the day. Hot tub on the back deck of larger yachts comes on. Music up. You arrive back at IGY around sunset.

4-hour and 8-hour charters add a longer Santa María stop, a Chileno snorkel stop, and/or an East Cape run depending on captain preference and weather.

When to charter

Cabo weather is friendly to charters most of the year

October–May: prime charter season. Flat water, calm winds, 75–85°F daytime. Whale watching season runs Dec–Apr (gray whales calving in the Sea of Cortez). Sea conditions are ideal almost every day. This is the season you book around weather forecast and have a 95% chance of a clean charter day.

June–September: hurricane season. Higher humidity, occasional storms, sea conditions can chop up unexpectedly. We still run charters but with weather-cancellation flexibility — our policy is captain's call up to 24 hours before, and if the captain says it's unsafe, you get a full refund or free reschedule. Slow-season pricing applies (~20% off peak).

Specific date considerations. Bisbee's Black & Blue marlin tournament (late Oct) brings massive demand for sport-fishing charters — book 6+ months out if you want a fishing-capable yacht that week. Spring break (Mar 1 – Apr 15) sees demand spike for party charters — bachelorette and college groups book early. Christmas/NYE charters book 6+ months out at 2x normal rates.

How to book

Direct deposit, flat pricing, captain's call on weather

Our charter booking model: 20% deposit to reserve your day, balance due day-of (cash to the marina or wire ahead). Captain confirms availability and dock number via WhatsApp within 24 hours. Weather cancellation is captain's call up to 24 hours before — full refund or reschedule, your choice.

Cancellation policy. 48+ hours: full refund. 24–48 hours: 50% refund. <24 hours: non-refundable (reschedule possible at captain's discretion). Weather: always full refund or free reschedule.

What to bring. Swimsuit (you can change on board), reef-safe sunscreen (regular sunscreen damages coral), sandals, sunglasses, GoPro or phone, and cash for the 15-20% gratuity. Towels, snorkel gear, paddleboard, and life vests are on board.

How to start. Three ways: browse our 14-yacht fleet, message us on WhatsApp, or fill out the "Plan My Trip" form with dates + group size and we'll send you a shortlist of 3 yachts matched to your group.

FAQs

Common questions

How much does a Cabo yacht charter actually cost?
Entry-tier (sport-fisher, 32-45ft): $800-1,500/charter. Mid-tier (50-65ft motor yacht or catamaran): $1,500-2,500/charter. Premium (65-80ft luxury yacht): $2,500-3,500/charter. Trophy (80ft+ Sunseeker/Azimut): $3,500-6,000/charter. Add 15-20% gratuity.
What's included in the charter price?
Captain + crew, open bar (beer, wine, spirits, water), snorkel gear + guide, floating mat, paddleboard, light snacks or chef-prepared lunch (depending on yacht + duration). Stops at El Arco, Lover's Beach, sea lions, Santa Maria or Chileno for swim.
What's the cancellation policy?
48+ hrs before: full refund. 24-48 hrs: 50% refund. <24 hrs: non-refundable (reschedule possible). Weather: captain's call, always full refund or free reschedule.
How many guests can each yacht hold?
Varies by vessel and Mexican Navy regulations. Generally: 32-45ft sport-fishers hold 8-12, 50-65ft yachts hold 12-20, 65-80ft yachts hold 20-30, 80ft+ trophy yachts hold 30-40. We'll match the right boat to your group size.
Is the bar really open the whole time?
Yes — beer, wine, spirits, water, juice, sodas all included. We do not water down the bar. Bring cash for the 15-20% crew tip if you want to make their day.
Will we see whales?
In season (December through April), almost certainly. Gray whales calve in the Sea of Cortez. Outside whale season, you'll likely see sea lions, dolphins, and occasionally manta rays.
Can we combine fishing with the charter?
Yes — book a sport-fisher and combine snorkel + fishing time. Fishing gear is included on fishing-capable yachts. Catch is "tag and release" for billfish; eating fish (dorado, tuna) we can clean and the chef will prep onboard.
What's the difference between a yacht charter and a shared sunset cruise?
Charter = private, only your group, you control everything. Sunset cruise = shared with 50+ strangers, fixed route, $89-119/person. The shared cruise wins for couples on budget; private charter wins for any group of 6+ where the per-person math evens out.
