The luxury resort landscape in Cabo shifts every year. Properties renovate, new restaurants open, management changes hands, and what was the best suddenly isn't. Here's where things stand in 2026, based on recent stays, client feedback, and the kind of insider knowledge you only get from living here.
The Current Pecking Order
1. Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Still the top. Zadun hasn't rested on its reputation since opening. The desert-meets-ocean architecture remains the most striking in the region. Every suite has a private plunge pool. The spa continues to innovate with locally sourced treatments. The restaurants have deepened their commitment to Baja sourcing, with ingredients coming from within a 100-mile radius.
What's new in 2026: an expanded wellness program with guided desert meditation walks at dawn, and a new mezcal bar featuring small-batch producers from Oaxaca and Durango that you won't find anywhere else in Cabo.
$1,200-2,500/night. The sweet spot: ask for a ground-floor suite with direct pool access to the main infinity pool.
2. Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal
The tunnel entrance never gets old. The Pacific-facing cliffs of Pedregal provide the most dramatic setting in Cabo. The spa, at 39,000 square feet carved into the rock face, remains the finest in the region. Don Manuels restaurant has updated its menu with more Baja-centric dishes alongside the classic steakhouse offerings.
What's new in 2026: renovated suites with updated furnishings and technology, and a new poolside dining concept that elevates the daytime food well beyond typical pool fare.
$800-2,000/night. The move: book an Ocean Front King with plunge pool and request a lower floor for easier beach access.
3. Las Ventanas al Paraiso (Rosewood)
The service standard-bearer. Las Ventanas has been the benchmark for butler-level service in Cabo for over two decades, and it hasn't slipped. The staff-to-guest ratio ensures you never wait for anything. The rooms remain among the largest in the region at 1,000+ square feet for entry-level categories.
The restaurant has evolved its menu toward lighter, more contemporary preparations while maintaining the torchlit cactus garden setting that makes dinner here feel like a dream sequence.
$1,500+/night. The insider tip: ask your butler about the private dining experiences. The rooftop dinner under the stars is $500/couple but worth every cent for a special occasion.
4. One&Only Palmilla
Palmilla's strength is its soul. The hacienda architecture, the chapel, the sense of history dating to 1956. No other luxury resort in Cabo has this depth. The Jack Nicklaus golf course remains one of the best in Mexico, with Pacific views and wintertime whale sightings from the fairways.
SEARED restaurant continues to deliver one of the best steakhouse experiences in Baja. The spa treatments incorporating ancient Mexican healing traditions have developed a loyal following.
$900+/night. The value play: the newly renovated Ocean Junior Suites offer the One&Only experience at the most accessible price point.
5. Montage Los Cabos
Montage has solidified its position as the best resort for people who actually want to swim in the ocean. The location on Santa Maria Bay, a protected marine reserve with crystal-clear water and calm conditions, gives it an advantage that no amount of money can buy at other properties.
The vibe is California-luxe without the Malibu attitude. Families are welcome without the property feeling like a kids' camp. Mezcal restaurant continues to impress with its contemporary Mexican menu and tableside guacamole.
$700-1,800/night. Best for: families, beach swimmers, anyone who wants luxury that doesn't take itself too seriously.
The Rising Contenders
St. Regis Los Cabos
The newest major luxury entry on the corridor. St. Regis brings its signature butler service model and Bloody Mary cart to a Pacific-facing property with modern architecture and ocean-view rooms. The early reports are strong: the service is polished, the rooms are large, and the F&B program is ambitious.
It's still finding its personality, which is normal for a new property. Give it a year and it may crack the top 5. Currently offering competitive introductory rates as it builds occupancy.
Aman (Coming Soon)
Aman has confirmed a property in the Los Cabos area. When it opens, it will almost certainly become the most expensive and exclusive option in the region. Aman properties are designed for ultra-privacy, exceptional architecture, and a level of quiet that borders on meditative.
The Value Champions
Chileno Bay (Auberge)
The best pool scene in Cabo, period. The three-tiered infinity pool with swim-up bar attracts a social, stylish crowd. Rooms are well-designed with Chileno Bay beach access. It doesn't have the gravitas of Zadun or the history of Palmilla, but for couples who want luxury with social energy, it's the play.
$600-1,500/night.
Grand Velas Los Cabos
The all-inclusive that doesn't compromise. Eight restaurants, premium spirits included, 1,100+ sqft suites. If you're going all-inclusive in Cabo, this is the only choice that matches the service and dining quality of the non-inclusive luxury resorts.
$600-1,200/night all-inclusive.
The Villa Alternative (Worth Repeating)
For the third time in this blog: private villas in Cabo deliver a luxury experience that most resorts can't match, especially for groups. The math is simple:
- Villa Savina: 7BR, 80ft pool, full staff, $3,070/night = $219/person for 14 guests
- Casa Primavera: 8BR, Pacific views, $3,500/night = $218/person for 16 guests
- Villa De Los Suenos: 8BR, ultimate luxury, $4,100/night = $256/person for 16 guests
Private pool. Private chef. Private everything. At a per-person cost lower than most Tier 2 resorts. The villa life in Cabo is the real luxury secret.
How to Book Smart in 2026
- Book 3-6 months ahead for high season (December-April). The top suites at Zadun and Las Ventanas sell out by September for the holidays.
- Consider May or November for 30-40% savings with great weather. These shoulder months offer most of the Cabo experience at a fraction of peak pricing.
- Book direct for upgrades and perks. Most luxury resorts offer room upgrades, spa credits, or dining credits when you book through their website rather than an OTA.
- Use a concierge service for access. Our team has relationships at every property and can often secure upgrades, late checkouts, and priority reservations that booking on your own can't.
